Timeless Words and Nature

The writings of Thoreau and Emerson had never struck a chord with me when I was required to read them in high school. Maybe it was because my life was fully consumed with basketball and schoolwork, but the thought of connecting with my inner self and nature flew right over my head. I wasn't concerned with finding happiness and contentment because I thought that I had found that in basketball. Today, however, the timeless words of these men have rang truer than ever.

I have been fortunate enough to share thoughts and aspirations with my brother who is finding his way in the world of photography. While scrolling through his feed, the love for nature's beauty shines through and fits perfectly with the words of these historic men. I loved the way that the color and modernness of his pictures contrasted the old, grainy portraits of Emerson and Thoreau. These modified portraits are a testament to the ageless words of wisdom and quest for happiness that people have endured and will continue to pursue.
