About me

Tyler Brazil graduated from San Francisco State University with a degree in Apparel Design and Merchandising. During his last semester, Tyler began a tailoring apprenticeship. Working within the strict, rigorous rules of tailoring left him with a need to be free to express creativity. As a result, he turned to painting to add balance to his daily routine. During the day he carefully builds with rows of stitches, and at night he paints with free, expressive strokes using palette knives, brushes, and digital tools.

Tyler is hugely inspired by animation, cartoons, and comics. These subjects played a huge part in his artistic development and remain a main source of inspiration. He often incorporates these characters in abstract paintings and while exploring new techniques.

His works are primarily created in oils. Palette knives allow him to let go of perfectionism and instead embrace spontaneity and expressive energy. Brushes are used in combination with knives to increase movement and add variety to the texture.  With his training in tailoring and eye for aesthetic beauty, Tyler works to create art that is every bit inspiring as the subjects that influenced it.
